Welcome to my website.   Please browse your desired pages above or see below for updates on what activities I’ve been up to. Regards, Sherine
My thanks to our son Dylan for setting this up for me and teaching my husband Frederick & I how to update it.

I volunteered to sing at a function to honour Senior Members of the Bellbirds Club which is the oldest Sri Lankan community organisation in Sydney. Here’s a few lines from the published report of the evening and a few pictures:

“A very popular sing-along followed with Sherine Prins on the keyboard. Sherine also entertained the gathering with renditions of much-loved songs from musicals such as My Fair Lady and The Sound of Music.
Sherine has recently produced a CD of her vocals, available for sale at $20.00 each from Sherine or Frederick Prins”

A warm welcome to all my new students in 2012 . All students are well and truly into the new year of learning and preparing for the mid year recital in June. Some students are also preparing for AMEB Piano, Theory and Singing exams later in the year. and yet others for their HSC Singing examinations.

It was a wonderful evening of splendid entertainment by all my students who rose to the occasion performing for parents, extended family and friends.  All the performances were outstanding and everyone showed tremendous improvement over the last six months.  We heard a variety of solo piano pieces, piano duets, solo singing, a singing duet and a small choral group finishing off with a seasonal piece.  My thanks to all the students for their efforts and parents for your encouragement and support throughout the year.  Sherine

It is that time of the year again as 2011 draws to a close.  All my students have been working hard to perform at the Musical Evening on Thursday 24th November 2011 in the presence of family and friends.  We’re looking forward to a fun evening with a wonderful variety of piano and singing items as well as a combined choral piece with a seasonal flavour followed by a shared supper to celebrate the year’s achievements.

Attended a workshop on 8 Nov 2011 on “How to be a Virtuoso Teacher Every Day of the Week” conducted by Paul Harris & Elissa Milne.  I found it stimulating and rewarding giving me new ideas and strategies to help my students achieve even better results whilst having lots of fun.  I’m very excited about putting some of this new learning to work.

Attended a 4 day seminar from 3 Nov to 6 Nov 2011 conducted by QC Seminars.  I found it exciting, fun and rewarding in terms of the knowledge and skills I gained in improving my interaction with my students.  I-NLP stands for Integrated Neuro Linguistic Programming. My trainer George Faddoul defines it as follows:

“The study of I-NLP advocates the pursuit of excellence in all endeavours.  It is the study of how to integrally and linguistically affect a person’s neurology in order to achieve a desired outcome”

Students braved a crisp winter evening to perform at the mid year Musical Evening. We were all treated to a most enjoyable evening of piano and singing performances to warm us all. Parents and extended family who attended all commented favourably on how well the students performed and how much they had improved. We all enjoyed the supper afterwards and a chat. My thanks to the students for giving of their very best and parents for your constant encouragement and support of your children. Special thanks to the Robinson family for organising to use their Church, setting up and cleaning after as well, generously giving their time to the success of the evening. Looking forward to the end of year recital tentatively planned for 25 November 2011. Same time, same venue ! Sherine

Dear Holy Spirit Parish,
Just like to comment on Sherine Prins’ recital on the 12th of June at Holy Spirit Parish –
I absolutely enjoyed Sherine’s performance on the 12th of June. The pieces chosen were beautifully performed – my favourite was the Ave Maria followed by Climb Every Mountain. Thank you Sherine for the effort and trouble taken to organise this special event for Holy Spirit Parish. I’m sure the parishioners who attended were held absolutely spellbound as I was. Worth braving the cold weather for this performance.
Regards
Evelyn Vernem, Parishioner

THANK YOU for a brilliant concert. It was superb! Beautiful singing, flute and piano playing, very well organised. I really enjoyed every minute of it! Congrats! Sherine on a brilliant performance!

20110619-093641.jpg We had a very enthusiastic audience of over 80 people who turned up on a cold and wet Sunday in the middle of a long weekend for my Recital and the launch of the “My Favourites” album recording. I had lots of positive feedback with many telling me how much they enjoyed the afternoon. We had people from as young as 7 up to several attendees in their 90′s! One Italian grandmother added a very excited “Bravo” to her applause when I finished “O mio babbino caro” (Oh my dear Papa) and at the end of the recital told me that she understood what I was singing in Italian which was very satisfying. My grateful thanks to my support team of Richard Morphew, my vocal coach who accompanied me as well as our flautist Sue Capper who played so beautifully and provided a wonderful variety to the afternoon’s program. My thanks also to Gerry Lobo who was our MC for the afternoon and did a splendid job. I was very pleased with the event, a big thanks to all who came!

My new album, “My Favourites” just arrived and is now available. Please feel free to have a listen and maybe go the next step and purchase a copy! You can start listening right now or go to the album page by clicking any of the links.

We’ve been hard at work in the last few months getting everything together and I’m thrilled with the result. Mad CDs in Sydney have done a fantastic job and were very helpful in the design process.

We would love to see you next week at the recital here in St Clair with shiny new copies for sale too. The performance includes many pieces from the album. I will be joined by Sue Capper on Flute with Julie Adam and Richard Morphew at the Piano.

The recital is in aid of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Cnr Todd Row & Moore Street, St Clair at 2 pm on Sunday 12 June 2011. Entry by donation.

My Piano and Singing students are busy preparing for the mid year Musical Evening on Friday 17 June 2011. This will give them an opportunity to perform some of the pieces which they have learned during the last six months to family, friends and fellow students. This is a night they always enjoy followed by a celebratory supper.

Sherine will give a song recital in aid of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Cnr Todd Row & Moore Street, St Clair at 2 pm on Sunday 12 June 2011.  Entry by donation.

The performance will include a variety of music from Classical to Religious works and selections from popular musicals.

Sherine will be joined by Sue Capper on Flute with Julie Adam and Richard Morphew at the Piano.

On the 9th December I visited the Minchinbury Manor Aged Care Facility in my local area with my portable keyboard and song sheets of Christmas carols having volunteered to lead a sing-a-long.

The residents joined in with lots of enthusiasm and embraced the opportunity to sing their favourite Christmas carols. In between I performed a few solos of “Climb every mountain”, “The Sound of Music”, “I could have danced all night” and my favourite Christmas Carol “O holy night”.

It was a very satisfying morning seeing the joy on their faces and the memories it brought them. Some of the residents couldn’t thank me enough and were very generous in their appreciation.

Carols and Midnight Mass Christmas Eve – Holy Spirit Catholic Church St.Clair

It was good to be part of the massed church choir conducted by Rachel.  I played the baby grand piano and helped out with singing the descant to some of the carols and O holy night.  The congregation joined in joyously and it was a rousing beginning to Christmas Day.

Christmas Carols and Lunch – Christmas Day

The Combined Churches of Mt Druitt organise a Christmas lunch for people who have nowhere to go on Christmas day for whatever reason.  A wonderful group of volunteers make it all happen with loads of work and some generous sponsors.  I volunteered my services to lead the singing of some Christmas carols.  This was well supported and enjoyed by all before we tucked into a tasty lunch.  Again a very satisfying experience and an enjoyable day for my husband Frederick and myself doing something different on Christmas day with both our children away from Sydney.

I performed “Tu virginum corona” from Mozart’s ‘Exultate Jubilate’ and my voice coach Richard Morphew accompanied me on the beautiful grand piano at the Uniting Church Blackheath. I received very good comments from those present and I was pleased with my performance. I also enjoyed listening to Richard’s other students as there’s always something you can learn from these experiences.

This was a very successful night with everyone enjoying the performances. It was great to observe the improvement in each and every one of my students as they produced their best efforts. I received lots of positive feedback from parents and family members alike. The addition of piano duets and vocal ensemble groups gave it so much variety.

Our special guest was Thelma Gunasekera, my school music teacher who was a great source of encouragement to me while I was growing up. She was very pleased to hear “Valley where wishes come true “ performed as a vocal ensemble in 2 part harmony as this was a song she taught me when I was in the school choir. We had a nice little celebration at the end of the night with everyone bringing a plate of finger-food.

A couple of comments on the Student Recital

Hi Sherine,

Thank YOU for the lovely evening on Friday – the performances were beautiful and we all were so very proud of the children’s achievements. Emily and Shannon were on such a high when they came back home – sign of a very successful evening.

Dear Music Teacher

Thank you so much for giving me a wonderful opportunity to sing on the stage and preparing me to do my best tonight at the Musical Evening. I hope we all made you very happy and proud tonight!

From: Jeyvicknan (Student aged 10)

My Piano and Singing students are busy preparing for the end of year Musical Evening on 26 November 2010. This will give them an opportunity to perform some of the pieces which they have learned during the last six months to family, friends and fellow students. This is a night they always enjoy followed by a celebratory supper.

We’ve posted up a whole bunch of tracks which are dotted around the site in relevant sections – but you can listen to them here. Or feel free to launch in a background tab/window so they will play continuously as you browse

On the way back home to Sydney we attended my old school (Holy Family Convent Dehiwela, Sri Lanka) dinner dance in Melbourne to mark the 75th Anniversary on 4 September 2010. I was requested to play the keyboards for the singing of the School Anthem by all the past pupils present and also to perform a couple of solos. Although not my favourite setting – singing through a rock-band-style sound-system at a large function centre – I decided to do it for my old school. Also dedicated my performance to all my teachers and in particular my first Music Teacher Mrs Thelma Gunasekera who was present at the event. I sang “I could have danced all night” from My Fair Lady, “Falling in Love with Love” from Boys from Syracuse” and as an encore “The Sound of Music” theme song from the musical of that name.
